Information for Travelers

Albuquerque International Sunport. Though Santa Fe has a small airport, there are only a limited number of flights to and from Santa Fe. The preferred choice is to fly to the Albuquerque International Sunport (ABQ), which is serviced by all major US airlines. Santa Fe is about 100km from Albuquerque and can be reached from the Albuquerque airport by rental car or by shuttle services. There is a light rail service between the center of Albuquerque (not the airport) and Santa Fe.

Please note that Q-Dot 2012 will not provide transportation between the Albuquerque airport and Santa Fe. Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation.

At the Albuquerque International Sunport, rental car providers, eg., Hertz, Avis, Budget, Avis, Enterprise, are reached by the rental car shuttle bus that stops frequently outside the baggage claim area. A convenient way of travelling to Santa Fe from the airport is to use a shuttle service. It is important to make your reservation with a shuttle service at least several weeks in advance of your arrival.

Passport and Visa. Visiting the US from a foreign country requires a valid passport. Citizens of some countries also may be required to obtain a visa. Please contact your nearest USA Embassy or Consulate for visa requirements. The website http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html may be a useful starting point. If you need a letter from the conference for your visa application, please contact the Q-Dot 2012 Conference Organizer at conferences@newmexicoconsortium.org for assistance.

Currency Exchange. Currency other than US dollars is rarely if ever accepted. Participants are encouraged to arrive with some US currency. Banks within walking distance of the conference center and most hotels will provide currency exchange upon presentation of your passport. Banks are open only Monday through Friday, typically from 9:00 to 15:00.  Los Alamos National Bank is located next to the Convention Center:

Traveler’s Checks and Credit Cards. Hotels, restaurants and shops in Santa Fe accept US dollar-denominated traveler’s checks and major credit cards, eg., Visa and MasterCard. Diners Club, American Express and other types of credit cards are generally but not universally accepted.

Insurance. The organizers of Q-Dot 2012 cannot accept responsibility for accidents or illness that might occur. Conference attends may want to consider purchasing travel insurance before leaving their home country.
